Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn were school friends
Sheeran, 32, and Seaborn, 31, have known each other since they were youngsters at Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk, England. In an interview with Dax Shepard on his podcast Armchair Expert, Sheeran said that he and Seaborn were not romantically involved at school, adding that it “would have been a disaster”.
The pair lost touch but reconnected when a mutual friend invited them both out in 2015. Sheeran said he was nervous about seeing his old school friend because the last they’d seen each other, they had kissed. The two hit it off though and, after announcing their engagement in January 2018, they tied the knot a year later.

Seaborn’s impressive educational background
Per People magazine, after graduating from Durham University in England, Seaborn moved to the US in 2013 to study for a master’s at Duke University in North Carolina. In an interview with Duke’s student newspaper The Chronicle, she said that the US had always been part of her plan, as she’d always wanted to study there.
Seaborn then moved to New York, where she worked for accounting firm Deloitte, before moving back to the UK to work at its London office. Sheeran has often expressed pride in his wife’s career.
She’s a hockey star
Her husband may be a world-famous musician, but Seaborn’s own name is recognised in the world of hockey.
At Durham, she led her team to back-to-back British university championships in 2012 and 2013. She continued to play at Duke. Per The Chronicle, she was considered a key player on the team, with her impact being quickly felt.

She’s Sheeran’s muse
In 2017, Sheeran released his album ÷ (Divide). The ballad “Perfect” became an instant hit and Sheeran later revealed he wrote the song after leaving a party at the Ibiza home of his friend James Blunt, per AOL. He told Radio.com that he and Seaborn got drunk, took their shoes off to dance on the lawn, and then jumped in the pool. Sheeran then decided to write a song about the experience, coming up with “Perfect”.
In September 2023, Sheeran released Autumn Variations, which he said was inspired by time spent cooking with his wife. In an interview with CBS Mornings, he said the two would always put on Norah Jones or Jack Johnson in the kitchen. He said he realised he didn’t have a similar type of album – with one producer, mood and feel – and aimed to do just that with Autumn Variations.

She beat cancer
In 2022, Sheeran spoke about a series of events that changed his life. He said that while Seaborn was pregnant, she was diagnosed with a tumour that needed surgery, but no treatment was possible until after the birth of the baby. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the musician said doctors discovered the tumour when Seaborn was six months pregnant.
The couple had to consider whether to have the baby delivered early. But Seaborn carried baby Jupiter to term and then underwent a successful removal of the tumour. Jupiter is their second daughter together; their first, Lyra, was born in 2020.
Seaborn spoke about the diagnosis in Sheeran’s Disney+ docuseries Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All. She said the experience “made me massively reflect on our mortality”. She also wondered, “Oh, if I died, what’s people’s perception of me? What do you leave behind?”
