The iPhone 13 will be the next smartphone to be released in Apple's iconic line up. With an anticipated 120Hz LTPO display and potential satellite capability, the suspense and excitement among consumers is growing.

But when can we expect Apple to release the next iPhone?

A September Release Is Predicted

While the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 made their debuts in June and July, there's an expectation that the iPhone 13 will be released in September.

With the exception of the iPhone SE (1st Generation), and iPhone X, every iPhone since the iPhone 4S has been released on a Friday in the second half of September. According to historical iPhone release dates on Wikipedia, September seems a likely option for the iPhone 13 release.

The iPhone 11 series was announced on September 10, 2019, the iPhone XS series on September 12, 2018, and the iPhone 8 series on September 12, 2017. This places announcement dates around one and a half weeks before actual release dates.

If the iPhone 13 gets released on Friday September 17, we should expect an announcement on or around September 7. If the release falls on the last Friday of the month, the predicted announcement date would be on or around September 14, 2021.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were delayed until October 23, 2020.

When Apple reported its June quarter results in July 2021, there was no suggestion that the iPhone 13 would be delayed.

The company posted a June quarter record revenue of $81.4 billion, up 36 percent year over year, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $1.30.

If Apple's previous iPhone launches are anything to go by, pre-orders for the iPhone 13 could start on September 17, with a launch date of September 24—the fourth Friday of September 2021.

Despite not having any confirmed details for the iPhone 13, we expect to Apple to release various iPhone 13 models including an iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iPhone 13 mini. Although, it's very possible that Apple could throw a spanner in the works and change the predicted naming convention to the iPhone 12S or similar.

Is It Worth Waiting For?

Little is expected to change design wise from the iPhone 12, continuing Apple's new squared-off design.

Looking back on previous iPhone releases, we expect to see a change to the phone's rear camera, and a larger battery to accompany the rumored higher refresh rate.

The Apple A14 Bionic chipset was introduced in the iPhone 12 series, so there's a good chance Apple will reveal an A15 chipset, which will make the iPhone 13 a worthy investment.
