The Anniversary event's best contribution to Overwatch are the dance emotes. Some very recognizable dances were added to the game, such as Junkrat's running man, or Winston's copycat of John Travolta's dance in Pulp Fiction. However, many fans were left scratching their heads when it came to Mei's dance. Where did it come from?

Turns out, Mei's dance was paying homage to the 2006 anime adaptation of the Haruhi Suzumiya light novel series, titled The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The song and dance, which played at the end of every episode of the first season, is a cultural phenomenon in Japan and is easily recognizable over there. However, many western audiences missed the reference. Luckily, Overwatch has a great global community and Mei's dance origins quickly came to light!
