Air travelers started the New Year’s weekend on Friday with another round of delays at South Florida’s major international airports, as federal air controllers labored to keep traffic flowing amid additional flights operated by the airlines.

As of mid-morning, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport led the region’s three airports with 88 delays, while Miami International Airport was close behind with 84 delays along with five cancellations.

Palm Beach International Airport, which has been the scene this week of preplanned measures by the Federal Aviation Administration, was averaging flight delays of 38 minutes Friday moring due to airport volume.

Across the state, flights at Naples Municipal Airport were averaging 56-minute delays, also due to airport volume, according to the FAA’s National Airspace System Status website.
