My Project
For the upcoming school year I am moving into a preschool special needs classroom. For some students preschool is their first real exposure to school and a structured learning environment. In my new classroom, I would like to use the Tonies box and characters to allow students the opportunity to utilize screen free technology but also gain benefits that come from being read to such as listening skills, comprehension, language development and so much more. Each character has stories and/or songs that are predownloaded. When the character is placed on top of the box, the stories and song play. The students have the ability to adjust the volume at their own discretion as well as change the magnetic characters when they would like. Tapping the box on either side, allows the students to change stories/songs.
Tonies allow students to hear stories being read aloud even when an adult is not nearby or available to read to them.
We all know how beneficial it is for students to be read to. Reading builds a child's success in listening, comprehension, language development, imagination, and even their social interaction. The Tonies box will allow students to have this capability in their own hands.
The Tonies box and characters will be available in the classroom for student to not only hear stories, but also to be used to play background music in the classroom that is sensory needs friendly as well as child friendly. The learning songs Tonie could also be used to help students strengthen skills such as letter identification, rote counting, and other basic skills. The creative Tonies allow for stories to be recorded and uploaded to the character. This will allow myself to record stories that are relative to our current topic/study for the children to hear while using the
