A 76-year-old Delray Beach man died after he was thrown from a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 95 in West Palm Beach.

Saint Surin Desty was a passenger in a southbound Nissan Pathfinder towing a utility trailer loaded with sod around noon Saturday. The trailer began to swerve, causing the driver to lose control, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle left the roadway on the west side and overturned. Desty died at the scene.

The driver, Lionel Mascille, 53, of Delray Beach, was wearing a seat belt. He was slightly injured and was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Alcohol and drugs are not thought to be factors, according to the highway patrol’s report.
