Residents of central Broward County can cool off this summer at Tropical Splash, a water playground that opened in March at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill.

The park features two interactive water playground areas: one for small children, which has climbing features and small slides, and one for bigger kids, which has two spiral slides, water guns and a dumping bucket. There also is an instructional pool that is accessible to those with disabilities. It will be used for Swim Central water-safety lessons, in cooperation with the Broward County School Board.

Judy Haynes, of Fort Lauderdale, plans to bring her children, Mikey, Victoria and Tiffany, to the pool. “We’ve been waiting for it to open.”

“It’s fun and exciting. We used to go all the way to C.B. Smith Park [in Pembroke Pines] to go to a water playground,” said Danesha Murphy, 10, of Fort Lauderdale.

“Everyone should have a water park nearby, especially in South Florida,” said Ryan Flaherty, of Sunrise, aquatic coordinator for C.B. Smith Park, who attended the opening day of Tropical Splash.

“This is a state-of-the art facility; the cleanliness of the water is closely monitored using chlorine and ozone.”

The park is at 700 NW 11th Place. Go to or call 954-321-1170 for information.
