His journalism career commenced in 1980 when he served at WTVW Channel 7 as a general assignment reporter. In 1981 he began working as a weekend sports anchor and he served in that position for one year, Later he was elevated to serve as a sports director. In 1990 he was elevated to serve as an evening news anchor after WTVW management recognized his popularity in the market and his journalistic heart and mind.
While he was working there, he reported on significant stories such as a devastating tornado that crashed through parts of Kentucky and Indiana killing 25 individuals, the 911 terror attacks, the execution of Timothy McVeigh, the visit of Pope John Paul II, the crash of a C-130 into a hotel and restaurant for three decades.
Afterward, he came to his present station where he is currently working as an anchor of the 5, 6, and 10 PM newscasts. He has been awarded almost every award recognizing excellence in TV news, such as a variety of regional Murrow and national Murrow awards and regional Emmys. Furthermore, Randy has been awarded multiple other awards, such as those from the Associated Press and the Indiana Broadcasters Association.
In 2018 he was placed into the Indiana AP Broadcasters Association [APBA] Hall of Fame. Due to his report on youth sports, he entered the Evansville Ball Hall of Fame in 2017. Randy has numerous times been voted Evansville’s favorite television news personality.
