List in order of importance, the three most important issues in your community, and briefly explain what you would do about each.
Tax reduction- Monitor expenditures to ensure funds are well spent. Increase tax base by building community approved projects.
Reduce crime – Increase the number of officers and use technology such as license plate readers and shot spotters to increase the effectiveness of the officers.
Mitigate flooding in our communities – The just completed flood study will serve as the basis to request Federal and State funds to improve the water flow.
Would you support or oppose declaring a state of emergency for housing affordability in your city with a cap on rent increases of 10% per year and why?
Housing affordability needs to be addressed at all Governmental levels, Federal, State, and local. The State needs to fully fund and release Sadowski funds. I oppose a rental cap of 10% because it does not take into account increases in operating expenses and property taxes, and it adds a new layer of government to enforce the cap.
Does your community have a comprehensive ordinance regulating short-term rentals, and is it enforced effectively?
We recently passed (2022) a short-term rental ordinance. The ordinance allows the city to license and inspect the business, and the city can also impose a noise level maximum which is the primary complaint of residents. The effectiveness of the ordinance is to be determined. The first business licenses for short term rentals will be issued on October 1, 2022.
Would you support an increase in pay and benefits for elected officials in your city? Why or why not?
I would not support an increase in pay and benefits for elected officials in my city, because I think that the current pay is reasonable.
What factor most distinguishes you from your opponent(s) and why?
I have served the City for 12 years as an elected official, and decades before my election to the commission as the President of The Lauderhill Chamber of Commerce, the Chair of the Lauderhill Housing Authority, a member of Planning and Zoning and a member of the Broward County Housing Finance Authority. I understand how Government works, and I am accessible to residents to address their concerns.
Have you signed a statement pledging to abide by Broward ethical campaign practices? Why or why not?
