Pokémon GO's best gym defenders in 2021 really depend on what Pokémon trainers intend to collect. Also, just how dedicated you are to the game.

How trainer's use Pokémon in-game also has a huge impact. If you go on a lot of raids for example, you'll want a lot of firepower. Whether you play aggressively or passively, we have rounded up just a few of the best gym defenders you can find.

Pokémon GO Best Gym Defenders

How do you even begin to choose a gym defender? Pokémon are so diverse, that you are quite literally spoiled for choice. We have just a few of the more well-rounded Pokémon for you here:

Blissey

While Blissey's statistics have been reworked, this Pokémon is still one of the strongest defenders in-game. To the point where it can even stand up against other more offensive-style Pokémon, like Machamp.

Metagoss

The steel/psyhic-type of Beldum's final evolutions means it is pretty rare. Again, this ability allows for Metagoss to stand up to offensive-types.

Slaking

Slaking's high attack and CP makes this Pokémon a good defender, and you will often find it outside of gyms as a popular choice.

Dragonite

This Pokémon is part flying-type, giving it an edge over land-based. So it's pretty effective as a gym defender.

Snorlax

The sheer bulk of this Pokémon makes it a good defender alone. Just make sure it doesn't sleep on the job!

So while the above Pokémon are all really good at defending gyms, it really does come donw to how you play the game. There are lots of alternative Pokémon out there as well, you just have to find what's best for you.
