At the new PGA Superstore, the focus is on using technology to help golfers achieve low scores on the links.
At the center of a new 50,000-square-foot storefront featuring the latest in golf and tennis gear is a putting green with the hottest golf trend, belly putters. Bordering the green are a dozen golf simulators, which help golfers select new clubs and take lessons from one of three PGA professionals on staff. The PGA Superstore employs 48 people during high season. Driving range golf ball buckets replace shopping baskets, and there’s even a hitting lane for tennis enthusiasts.
Doreen LaPierre is the tournament and event marketing manager for the PGA Superstore. She said only other Florida store in the 12-store chain is in Naples.
LaPierre said that when the company began scouting locations for a store on Florida’s southeast coast, Delray Beach topped the list. She said customers who visit the store, which is located at 1040 Linton Blvd., will find a wide array of merchandise and the latest in interactive technology.
“TaylorMade has their own golf demo simulator,” LaPierre said. “We have several golf demo simulators where players can try out any club, and modules that allow membership customers play practice sessions of golf indoors or get a quick or extensive lesson.”
Steven Solomon, a 77-year-old golfer from Boynton Beach, came to the PGA Superstore to compare his current driver with the latest clubs on the market.
“I’m looking for technology that will give me more distance on my drive,” he said.
Boca Raton resident Marvin Lubeck came to the performance practice facility to schedule a golf lesson and get a dozen demo swings with a new club.
A practice membership allows unlimited 30-minute practice sessions, as well as free labor on club re-grips, up to 14 clubs. The practice sessions feature video screens displaying swings, ball-flight trajectory and ball-striking speed.
“We do a lot of fittings,” LaPierre said. “We have a reward system so that when you get to 300 points, we send out a rewards gift card. All of our data is via email.”
The PGA Superstore also has a clubhouse on-site in which it hosts events and parties for companies. In addition, the facility serves as headquarters for golf tournament planning and features children’s and ladies’ apparel and merchandise.
