KOMPAS.com – Dalam siklus air ada beberapa istilah seperti evaporasi, kondensasi, prespitasi, dan infiltrasi. Apakah yang dimaksud dengan istilah-istilah tersebut? Berikut adalah pembahasannya!
Evaporasi adalah peristiwa berubahnya air dalam bentuk cairan menjadi gas. Evaporasi disebut juga sebagai penguapan.
Dalam evaporasi, air dipermukaan bumi ke atmosfer. Evaporasi terjadi saat air di permukaan, laut, dan juga badan tumbuhan menguap dikarenakan panas. Adapun, evaporasi pada tumbuhan disebut sebagai transpirasi.
Kondensasi adalah kebalikan dari proses evaporasi, yaitu berubahnya air dalam bentuk gas (uap air) menjadi cair.
Dilansir dari National Geographic, kondensasi dapat terjadi melalui dua cara yaitu saat udara didinginkan sampai ke titik embunnya seperti pada pembentukan awan.
Adapun, cara kedua adalah ketika udara menjadi sangat jenuh. Udara yang jenuh dan evaporasi yang terus terjadi membuat udara tidak dapat lagi menahan uap ais, sehingga uap air kembali menjadi cair.
Artinya, berbeda dengan evaporasi yang mengandalkan pemanasan untuk mengubah bentuk zat, kondensasi mengandalkan proses pendinginan untuk mengubah bentuk zat.
Istilah selanjutnya yang kerap terdengar ketika mempelajari siklus air adalah presipitasi.
Dilansir dari Encyclopedia Britannica, presipitasi adalah semua partikel air cair dan padat yang jatuh dari awan lalu mencapai tanah.
Artinya, presipitasi bukan seperti evaporasi dan kondensasi yang merupakan proses perubahan bentuk zat. Presipitasi adalah proses pergerakan air dari awan ke tanah.
Presipitasi terjadi karena kondensasi uap air di awan. Di mana uap air di atmosfer cukup besar dan berat untuk kemudian turun ke bumi cair atau padat seperti es dan salju.
Contoh presipitasi adalah turunnya hujan, gerimis, salju, hujan es, dan juga kristal es.
Setelah prespitasi terjadi, air yang jatuh ke permukaan kemudian akan mengalami infiltrasi.
Dilansir dari United States Environmental Protection Agency, infiltrasi adalah proses masuknya air ke dalam tanah.
Laju infiltrasi biasanya berbeda-beda bergantung pada jenis tanah, kondisi geografis, dan juga jumlah air.
Makin tinggi laju infiltrasinya, maka makin cepat juga air diserap oleh tanah. Sebaliknya, makin lambat laju infiltrasinya, maka makin lambat juga air diserap oleh tanah. Laju infiltrasi yang lambat biasanya mengakibatkan genangan air.
