The Office Depot store in Pompano Beach is announcing its closing with a large banner: “Closing Sale: This location only.”

But actually, the company is closing three stores in Broward County on May 16: the Pompano store at 1410 NE 23rd St.; an OfficeMax location at 15891 Pines Blvd. in Pembroke Pines; and an Office Depot at 3101 SW 160th Ave. in Miramar.

No stores are closing in Palm Beach County at this time, said Karen Denning, spokeswoman for Boca Raton-based Office Depot.

Office Depot, which in February announced a proposal to merge with Staples, has said it will close 400 Office Depot and OfficeMax stores around the nation, after its 2013 merger with OfficeMax.

In 2014, Office Depot closed about 165 locations, including OfficeMax stores in Coral Springs and Deerfield Beach. The company said it plans to close at least 100 more by the second quarter in 2015.

The Pompano Beach store has computers and printers on sale, but some basic office supplies, such as printer ink, have been moved to other stores.
