Two years ago, during school closure I had what seemed like a crazy idea, I started a project like no other! I sent a succulent plant and potting supplies home with each of my 78 sixth graders during school closure to create their own mini ecosystem. This project is perfect because no matter what Covid cure ball we are thrown they can engage in this project either face to face or virtually. Due to the high cost of providing each student a plant I need some help this year. I love this project because students use their own creativity to create a home for their succulent. They learn so much from taking full responsibility for living thing. This lab gives them a real-world experience and deepens their understanding of ecosystems, energy, matter, and the water cycle. We track the growth of their plants, post on a Padlet, share and discuss every week for the rest of the school year. They are always eager to share how their plant is doing. Help me continue one of the most meaningful projects of the school year.
