Dear Ann Landers: I just read the letter from “Shreveport,” who got pregnant after her husband had had a vasectomy. Five years after my husband had a vasectomy, I discovered I was pregnant. My family doctor said it was impossible unless I was having an affair. I assured him that was not the case. My husband then had a sperm test. The results said it was impossible for him to father a child.

When I was five months along, an ultrasound showed that the baby had died in utero. I was devastated. Since I already had three healthy children and had suffered two previous miscarriages, I decided to have a tubal ligation and not put any more pressure on my marriage. My husband insisted the child was not his, but God and I knew better. We divorced a few years later.

In 1989, I married a wonderful man who had no children of his own but was happy to take on my three teen-agers. Three months after our wedding, I found out I was pregnant, even though it seemed impossible. Unfortunately, I miscarried. My husband and I then gave up all hope of having a child.

In 1995, a miracle happened. I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful daughter, and we are blissfully happy. I feel like the luckiest woman alive. _ Miracle Mom in London, Ontario

Dear M.M.: Your letter proves that doctors can be wrong and miracles do happen.

Dear Ann Landers: You printed several responses to a letter about a woman who received dirty looks and comments when her son threw a tantrum in the supermarket. One writer speculated that even though the child looked normal, he may have had some psychological problems.

Our son was diagnosed as autistic when he was 2 years old. He has had dozens of tantrums that lasted nearly two hours. Even with professional help, we have been unable to find a satisfactory way of dealing with those episodes. To observers, our son appears normal. The glares and comments we get from strangers in public places when he has an episode are cutting.

Please ask your readers not to condemn until they know the whole story. _ Jacksonville
