PHILADELPHIA (CNN) — One dog in Philadelphia is being rewarded for preventing what could have been an explosive situation.

Kobe is a four-year-old husky.

Last month, his owner, Channel Bell, noticed he was digging a hole in the yard which he has never done before.

Then a week later, he started digging in the same place.

Bell checked it out with a gas detection device and realized he was smelling a low-pressure gas leak.

She called the gas company and got it fixed, then shared the story on social media.

Bell also wrote a book about what happened, and PETA caught wind of the story.

The organization is now giving Kobe a heroic dog award.
