A Miami Gardens man is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly walked into a coffee shop in Cooper City to demand money and shot a woman, authorities said.

Jason J. Butler, 38, was arrested Sunday on a count of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm. He was being held in the Broward Main Jail.

An adult woman was found shot shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday at Clutch Coffee Bar, in the shopping plaza at 9630 Stirling Road near Cooper City High School. Paramedics took the woman to a local hospital, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

Butler allegedly demanded money, shot the woman and fled to a home a few blocks away in the 4000 block of Northwest 92nd Avenue, where he was found Sunday evening.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies served a search warrant at the home where they found Butler, a gun and an extended magazine that he was carrying at the time of the shooting.

The woman’s name was withheld under Marsy’s Law, a voter-approved constitutional amendment that allows crime victims to protect their names and other identifying information from the public.

A sign hanging in the coffee ship window Monday said the business will be closed until further notice.
