Just in time for some cooler weather, there’s a place to warm up with a cup of soup and fresh baked bread for dipping.
The eighth annual Empty Bowls Delray Beach is back from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9 at Trinity Delray Lutheran Church and School, 400 N. Swinton Ave.
For $35, supporters will receive a cup of soup of their choice, bread from Old School Bakery and bottled water to benefit the Palm Beach County Food Bank, which helps food pantries, soup kitchens and residential housing
programs feed families in need.
“Year-round we serve 200,000 food-insecure people in Palm Beach County,” Palm Beach County Food Bank CEO Jamie Kendall said in a statement. “The holiday season can come with stress for a lot of families. It’s up to us, and Empty Bowls participants, to ensure they have a holiday meal to put on the table and that they are nourished
going into the new year.”
What pairs well with a cup of soup? A handcrafted bowl to serve it in. A variety of colorful bowls made by local artists will be available to purchase.
Attendees can also enjoy music and entertainment.
Delray Beach’s fundraiser is part of the national grassroots event that raises money for hunger relief with its motto: “Eat simply, so others can simply eat.”
The lineup of Palm Beach County restaurants participating includes Palm Trail Grill, Abe and Louie’s, Caffe Luna Rosa, Eat Thai, J&J Seafood Bar and Grill, Latitudes at Delray Sands, Longhorn Steakhouse Delray, Space of Mind Community Classroom Project, Tin Muffin and Woodfield Country Club.
John and Diane Brewer are this year’s event co-chairpersons along with Stephanie Dodge serving as honorary chairwoman.
