When St. Andrew’s football coach Jimmy Robertson began the season, he said he believed his team had a shot at winning the District 10-2M title.
It had been 38 years since they last won a district title, yet the tone was set in the first game of the season when they rallied from a 15-point deficit and needed double overtime to top The King’s Academy, 55-54.
“At the beginning of the year, I thought we had a shot at winning district and that was one of our main goals,” Robertson said. “After beating The King’s Academy in two overtimes and West Boca in overtime (10-7), I knew it was our year to win districts.
“Watching our team compete all season long against tough competition I knew we had a special group,” he said. “We put ourselves in a good situation to host a home playoff game and we drew Calvary who I thought was one of the best teams in our region.”
Calvary Christian Academy is 6-0 against the Scots dating back to 2009.
“Unfortunately, turnovers hurt us in the playoff game, and we weren’t able to get that playoff win,” Robertson said. “However, I think this season was an eye-opener for the team, program, school and community of how good we can be.”
St. Andrew’s finished the season with the most wins in school history in a season, and the No. 3 seed in FHSAA 2M playoffs. The Scots also defeated district opponents by a margin of 125-19. The team’s only other loss this season came a week after they topped West Boca when they fell to University School, 14-6.
St. Andrew’s outscored its opposition, 404-149, behind some key offensive players, including Texas A&M commit and senior quarterback Dylan Mayers (1,760 passing yards, 25 touchdowns; 321 rushing yards, two TDs).
Senior running back Jackson Parke ran for 910 yards and 14 TDs in addition to 274 receiving yards and two scores. He also added 306 yards on kick returns.
Junior receiver Teddy Hoffmann, who holds many D1 offers, contributed 927 yards receiving to go along with his 15 touchdowns. Hoffman also added 28 tackles on defense.
The local squad clinched the district title with a 41-14 victory over visiting Somerset Canyons Academy as Parke scored on runs of 59, 18, 79, and 1 yard as he piled up nearly 300 all-purpose yards in the win. It was fitting since it was also Senior Night for the Scots.
Senior middle linebacker Cole Hofbauer also contributed 62 tackles, including 50 solo tackles. He also had an interception on defense. He’s also a standout on the state-champion boys’ lacrosse team.
“It’s one of the best teams I’ve coached in my eight years (here),” Robertson said. “They understood the culture and mission.”
