The Reverend Samuel Delevoe and Juneteenth Celebration, an all-day “Festival of Faith,” will be held Saturday at Delevoe Park in Fort Lauderdale.

The festivities will start with a banquet at Signature Grand in Davie on Friday at 6 p.m. Cost is $50 for adults and $30 for children.

“We’ll also be recognizing and honoring selected pioneers and outstanding citizens of Broward County,” said Lois Delevoe, president of the organizing committee.

Saturday’s festival at Delevoe Park, which is free, features gospel concerts, poetry readings, storytelling, arts and crafts and pony rides. The park is at 2520 NW Sixth St.

Shelter needs teen-agers to work with animals

If you’re a teen-ager who wants to spend the summer working with animals, read this: The Broward County Animal Care and Prevention Division will hold an orientation session for the teen volunteer summer program on Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m., in the division’s animal shelter at 1870 SW 39th St.

Volunteer opportunities are available for youths ages 14-17 Monday through Friday in two shifts from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Four positions are available: greeter, veterinary clinic assistant, animal care assistant and administrative assistant. Volunteers may be limited to one shift per week depending on the number of volunteers. County staff will provide training.

Teen-agers can volunteer at the Fort Lauderdale shelter or the Pompano Beach shelter at 3100 NW 19th Terrace. Volunteers will need to complete an application and a permission form signed by their parent or guardian.
