John Braxton Obituary, Death Cause – We want to express our deepest condolences for the burden of having to inform you of John Braxton’s passing. John Braxton served as the sheriff of Holmes County at one point in his life. We shall miss having him around.
Sheriff Braxton was elected to the office of Sheriff of Holmes County on two consecutive times and served in that capacity beginning in 1989 and continuing until 1997. His tenure as Sheriff of Holmes County lasted from 1989 to 1997. Before being elected sheriff in 1988, he began his law enforcement career by working as a trooper for the Florida Highway Patrol for a combined total of 21 years, as the Chief Deputy of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office for a combined total of four years, and as a member of the Military Police of the United States Air Force for a combined total of four years.
The Florida Sheriffs Association honored Sheriff Braxton with their Distinguished Service Award in appreciation of the significant contributions he has made to the field of professional law enforcement. This award was presented to Sheriff Braxton by the association. Because of his accomplishments, he has garnered the respect of his contemporaries in the business.
We will be eternally thankful to Sheriff Braxton for the direction and companionship he has provided throughout the years, as well as the fact that he has devoted his whole life to serving the community in which he was born and raised. For this, we will be forever grateful. We ask that you remember Sheriff Braxton’s family in your thoughts and prayers at the same time that we pay homage to the legacy of public service that he leaves behind, and we ask that you do so at the same time as we do so.
