Jim Rome is a sports radio host in the United States. He is currently the host of The Jim Rome Show, a syndicated CBS Sports Radio talk show. Jim hosted the radio show from a studio near Los Angeles, California. He presented another television show called Jim Rome Is Burning (previously Rome Is Burning) for several years. The show was broadcast on ESPN in the United States and TSN2 in Canada.
He parted up with ESPN in 2011 and proceeded to work for the CBS network. There, he began presenting his own show as well as an interview-format show on Showtime. He has previously hosted The Last Word (Fox Sports Net), The FX Sports Show (FX), and sports debate television shows Talk2 (ESPN2).

Jim Rome Career
While still a student at UCSB, he began his radio career at college radio station KCSB-FM. Jim worked as a sports director at KTMS in Santa Barbara for a quarter of his time there. The journalsit eventually relocated to XTRA Sports 690 in San Diego. While there, he founded The Jim Rome Show, also known as “The Jungle.” The program is distinctive soundtrack was a loop of the instrumental intros of Iggy Pop’s song “Lust for Life” and Guns N’ Roses’ song “Welcome to the Jungle.” The show was syndicated in 1996.
When Jim Everett, an NFL quarterback, was a guest on his ESPN2 show Talk2 in 1994, there occurred an incident that catapulted him to fame. Jim had previously referred to Everett as “Chris” (after the female tennis star, Chris Evert), implying that Everett was less than a man whenever he avoided being hit. Everett appeared on the show as a guest and advised Jim not to repeat the insult.
Jim, on the other hand, continued to refer to Everett as “Chris.” While still on the radio, Everett overturned the table between them and slammed Jim to the floor. Although no legal action was taken as a result of their confrontation, Jim publicly apologized to Everett and still considers that incident to be one of his early career mistakes.
He spoke with Mark Shapiro, ESPN’s executive producer of programming and production, on his radio show in the beginning of 2003. The journalist’s potential return to ESPN was surprisingly discussed between the two, and a few months later, he was formally hired again to host a program called Rome Is Burning. He openly attributes his return to television to that interview.
Jim declared in July 2006 that his nationally syndicated radio show would continue on terrestrial radio rather than moving to satellite radio. The radio show is currently broadcast on over 200 stations in the United States and Canada. In addition, the same show has an estimated 2.5 million viewers.
According to Talkers Magazine, Jim is tied for the #29 most influential talk radio personality and his current show is tied for the #21 most listened to talk radio show in the United States.
