Jamaican citizens will be able to apply for new machine-readable passports at the Jamaican consulate beginning June 3.
As of that date, applications will be accepted at the consulates in Miami and New York, as well as the embassy in Washington, D.C. The new passports have been developed to international specifications with security features.
Under the new system, passport applications for Jamaican citizens living outside Jamaica must be submitted to a consulate or embassy. Applications sent directly to the passport office in Kingston, Jamaica will not be accepted, according to the Jamaican government.
Initially, only expired passports and those within one-year validity will be processed. For more information, call 305-374-8431 or at
