KOMPAS.com - Kontingen Jawa Barat (Jabar) dipastikan menjadi Juara Umum Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) XX Papua 2021.
Raihan medali Jabar tak mampu dikejar oleh kontingen lain hingga hari penutupan PON XX Papua 2021 pada Jumat (15/10/2021).
Dari 681 nomor pertandingan yang tersaji pada PON Papua 2021, Jabar berhasil mengumpulkan 133 emas, 105 perak, dan 115 perunggu.
Total, Jabar selaku pemimpin klasemen PON Papua 2021 telah mengoleksi 353 medali, terbanyak di antara provinsi lain.
Keberhasilan Jabar dalam memuncaki klasemen medali PON Papua 2021 tak lepas dari dominasi yang mereka tunjukkan di beberapa cabang olahraga.
Berdasarkan laporan pusat pemberitaan PON Papua, InfoPublik.id, Jabar mampu merajai 15 cabor yang dipertandingkan, yakni dayung canoeing, dayung rowing, dayung traditional boat, taekwondo, dan karate.
Selain itu, mereka juga menguasai cabor hockey indoor, bola voli indoor, angkat besi, angkat berat, bulu tangkis, menembak, catur, aerosport-gantole, pencak silat, dan atletik.
Adapun sumbangan medali emas terbanyak berasal dari cabor atletik dan menembak (11 keping) serta angkat berat (8).
Atlet-atlet dari Tanah Pasundan sukses mengantarkan Jabar menjadi Juara Umum PON untuk kedua kalinya secara beruntun.
Sebelum ini, Jabar juga meraih pencapaian serupa ketika menjadi tuan rumah PON XIX 2016.
Papua mengukir sejarah dengan capaian medali dan peringkat tertinggi selama keikutsertaannya di PON.
Pada edisi kali ini, Papua finis di peringkat keempat dengan torehan 93 emas, 66 perak, dan 102 perunggu.
Sebelum ini, pencapaian terbaik Papua terjadi pada PON 1985 di Jakarta.
Papua ketika itu finis diperingkat kelima dengan koleksi 23 medali emas, 24 perak, dan 26 perunggu.
InfoPublik.id menulis, dari 34 provinsi yang ikut serta dalam PON XX Papua 2021, 32 provinsi di antaranya berhasil meraih medali emas. Hanya Maluku Utara dan Sulawesi Barat yang tidak berhasil mengamankan emas dan perak.
Rampung sudah pergelaran PON XX Papua 2021. Selanjutnya, PON ke-21 akan dihelat di Aceh dan Sumatera Utara pada 2024.
