His lavish spending habits also left a giant hole in his bank accounts (at one point he was spending US$2 million a month on various OTT purchases), but regardless, it’s not as though Depp is poor. Today he’s still likely worth around US$150 million.

And while his love of wine, yachts and art is well-documented, what many may not realise is that he’s also amassed quite the property portfolio. According to Hello! magazine, Depp owns over US$100 million worth of property. We take a look at what he’s bought and sold over the years – and for how much.

He has five Hollywood Hills homes worth US$19 million

According to Hello!, Depp owns five neighbouring homes that he decided to turn into one huge private compound in the posh Hollywood Hills, collectively covering an area of 7,430 sq ft.

The largest mansion is worth over US$19 million and boasts eight bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, and the interior design is reportedly classic 1920s gothic. In total, all of the houses together add up to almost 40 bedrooms, according to Squareyards.com.

In 2021, an intruder broke into Depp’s mansion and reportedly took a shower and made himself a drink inside before the police came to root him out. And that wasn’t the first time someone tried to break into houses on the estate. Just a few months prior, in late 2020, a woman had also tried to break in, but fled when she realised she’d triggered the security system.

Depp bought the main house, which is nestled in a 1.6-hectare (four-acre) eucalyptus grove, for just US$1.8 million back in 1995. There were also reports suggesting the actor planned to build a connecting underground tunnel linking all of the properties together, but that is yet to be confirmed.

The five units sit on a total of 11,500 sq ft and feature a total of three bedrooms. The building was designed by Claud Beelman in 1930 and is considered as one of the city’s best examples of art deco architecture still standing. It also has a spectacular rooftop pool, according to those familiar with the property.

In 1995, Depp bought a horse farm in his home state of Kentucky for a reported US$950,000. He sold it five years later for just over US$1 million, and re-bought it again in 2005 for US$2 million as a gift to his late mother, who lived there until her death in 2016. The farm was then named Betty Sue’s Family Farm in honour of his late mum.

Depp is nothing if not quirky, so it’s not surprising that some of his purchases are pretty over the top. When he was in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis, he bought her an entire French village in the Cote d’Azur, about 16km (10 miles) from St Tropez.

Costing US$55 million for the lot, the picturesque 19th century village has a bistro named Café Marcheline, a village church, one giant main residence with over 4,500 sq ft of space, and six guest cottages – combining for a total of 15 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms.

The hamlet also has two swimming pools, a skate park Depp designed for his son Jack, and a Pirates of the Caribbean-themed wine cellar, reports Hello! magazine.

Depp attempted to sell the village in 2015 with an asking price of US$25 million (he is believed to have spent around US$10 million renovating the various properties). However, there were no buyers and, in 2021, he re-listed the village for US$55.5 million.

When Depp married Heard in 2015, their wedding venue was … his own private island. The 18-hectare (45-acre) island is known as Little Halls Pond Cay and is located in the Exuma Land and Sea Park protected area of the Bahamas.

According to Forbes, Depp bought the island for about US$3.6 million back in 2004 after falling in love with the place during a Pirates of the Caribbean film shoot.

The drop-dead-gorgeous island features pristine white sandy beaches, a lagoon surrounded by palm trees and solar-powered accommodation, a beach house and a bamboo yurt. What’s more is that all six of its beaches are named after his children and his idols, including Lily-Rose, Hunter S. Thompson (Gonzo beach) and Marlon Brando (Brando beach).

The island was also mentioned during his defamation trial with Heard. The manager of the island, Tara Roberts, testified that she saw Heard “viciously trying to pull [Depp] back in the house”.

Depp has also made friends with the creatures on the island. He told Vanity Fair that he’s named a huge iguana there Iggy, and talks of her fondly. The island is now understood to be worth more than US$5 million.
