Wondering how to summon Spirits in Elden Ring? Here's what you need to know.

As you progress, you'll inevitably come across Spirit Ashes though likely before you've unlocked the ability to use them. Players can use Spirits in Elden Ring to aid them in combat, leveling the playing field slightly. These work differently to the player summons that you might be used to in other Souls games, instead summoning AI-controlled Spirits to help in your battles.

These Spirits prove to be useful allies, but you won't be able to summon them right away.

Though shattered, it shall guide thee. Though fractured, it yet calls. Enact thy will. Become Lord. Seek the Elden Ring.

How to Summon Spirits in Elden Ring

In order to summon Spirits in Elden Ring, you'll need to get your hands on the Spirit Calling Bell.

To get the Spirit Calling Bell, you'll need to have spoken to Melina in West Limgrave. After this, you can fast travel back to the Church of Elleh at night. You'll be on the hunt for a particular NPC witch near the ruined walls. Once you find her, she should (eventually) give you the Spirit Calling Bell.

With this, you can now use it similar to how you use spells. Assign a Spirit to a quick slot and press the appropriate button for your character to ring the bell. Each Spirit, which you'll collect from Ashes found throughout your travels, will require a certain amount of FP to summon. The stronger the Spirit, the larger amount of FP you'll need to summon it, usually.

Sadly, they can't be used just anywhere though. You'll know where you can summon a Spirit by a glowing arch icon to the left of the screen. Certain areas in Legacy dungeons, boss fights, and such are prime locations for summoning spirits.
