Florida State unveiled several new football uniforms for the 2023 season during its Garnet and Gold Showcase at Doak Campbell Stadium last weekend.

The looks are part of Nike‘s Vapor F.U.S.E uniforms which are being worn by a select number of collegiate programs this upcoming season. They feature lightweight fabric and a precision fit.

While FSU’s new uniforms feature an updated look, there’s a nod to some of the uniforms worn by former teams. The player numbers have been dropped from the top of the shoulders onto the sleeve to open up space for a tribal pattern on the shoulder cap and cuffs that pays tribute to the Seminole Tribe.

Here is what the school said about the tribute:

“The tribal pattern incorporates meaningful symbolism from the Seminole Tribe’s patchwork patterns into the program’s jerseys. The patchwork decorative technique dates back to the early 1900s among Seminole Tribe women and was adopted by the Tribe as a standard means of embellishing their traditionally vibrant clothing. The pattern on the jerseys is designed using the Seminole symbols for arrow, man on horse and fire from top to bottom in a repeating arrangement.”

The uniform pants will feature the primary Seminole head logo on both hips.

The new uniforms have garnet and white jerseys, gold, garnet and white pants, and gold and white helmet options for 2023.

Coach Mike Norvell credited the partnership between Nike and Florida State for coming up with the concept.

“I love the traditional look that it shows, but also with the representing the Seminole Tribe and keeping that a part of what we’re doing and making sure it still has a strong place in the uniform,” said Norvell. “But it still returns to that classic Florida State [look] that’s so well appreciated. It’s a great-looking uniform and they’ve done a wonderful job. I’m excited to see our guys wearing it here this fall.”

Added edge rusher Jared Verse: “I could finally give out the secret. They made me vow to secrecy. I like them.”
