The only way you can play Fall Guys with your friends is to form a party in game. Of course, that means each player needs to own the game. At the main screen, press P on PC or Triangle on PS4 to invite friends. You can have up to four players in a party, but there are no private or custom queues yet.

Developer Mediatronic is aware of the demand for split-screen local multiplayer, and their Reddit AMA revealed that it was originally going to be in the game. "We'd love to have split screen but at some point during development we had to cut it in order to get the game finished in time! It's a HUGE undertaking from so many disciplines and we decided it would be better not to spread ourselves too thin and make sure the game we delivered is up to par."

Apparently, plans to implement local mutliplayer are in the works. "That said, you never know what might come post launch! I'd certainly love to play split screen and it gets requested TONS by the community."

We could expect to see local multiplayer in a future update. The game seems to be a perfect fit for couch co-op, and would be especially fun as a party game.
