Deputies have identified the 27-year-old-diver who died Thursday as Emmitt Jones of Jupiter.

Jones died after the captain of the boat he was traveling with found him at the bottom of the ocean off the coast of Jupiter, according to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they received a call from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Jupiter Police about 2 p.m. Thursday that a diver was brought in from the ocean and was unresponsive.

Deputies said they were told the man was on a commercial fishing boat with others and didn’t surface in a timely manner. That’s when, deputies said, the captain of the boat went into the water to find him.

The man was brought to the shore at the Square Grouper, 1111 Love St., where Jupiter police and fire rescue began to treat him before he was pronounced dead, deputies said.

Deputies will be investigating the diving accident.
