The FAU Owls men’s basketball team knows how to hang in there.
After losing its fifth game of the season last week, Florida Atlantic managed to hold on and stay in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for a 16th consecutive week.
FAU (19-5, 9-2 American Athletic Conference) dropped from No. 20 last week to No. 24 on Monday. There are still only five teams in the Top 25 with more wins than the Owls: No. 1 UConn, No. 2 Purdue and No. 23 Indiana State (each with 22 wins), No. 3 Houston and No. 11 South Carolina (21 wins each) and St. Mary’s (20 wins).
Both of the Owls’ games last week were on the road and went to overtime. On Thursday, FAU fell to UAB 76-73, but on Sunday, FAU poured it on in OT and walked away with a 95-82 victory over Wichita State.
Florida Atlantic next faces Temple (8-16, 1-10 AAC) on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on the Boca Raton campus.
