Shiny Ho-Oh: Can Ho-Oh be Shiny in Pokémon GO?
You'll have until January 5 to battle Ho-Oh in Legendary Raids. There will be a chance to catch a Shiny Ho-Oh during this event as well. During a Raid event, you'll encounter a Shiny once every 20 encounters.
You will actually have to defeat Ho-Oh each time, as the Raid Pokémon won't appear as Shiny when you battle it. You'll know it's a Shiny when you see the sparkle and when the Pokémon is a different color. A Shiny Ho-Oh has silver accents instead of gold, and the edges of its wings are red instead of green.
Since you'll have to defeat a few Ho-Oh before you run into a Shiny, having a good team to take them down will make the process faster. As it's a five star raid, you should get some friends in a party to help.
Fill your team with strong Rock-, Water- and Electric-Type Pokémon to deal with Ho-Oh. It's double weak to Rock, so Pokémon like Tyranitar and Rhyperior will help the most. You just have to watch out for Ho-Oh type covering moves.
Ho-Oh can know moves like Earthquake and Solarbeam, which can do a number on Rock types. Earthquake also deals big damage agains Electric types, where Solarbeam covers any Water types. As long as your team has a variety of Rock, Water or Electric types, you shouldn't run into any problems. Ho-Oh has some beefy stats, so you may have to plan for a longer Raid.
