Broward County is set to get its first Topgolf location as part of a massive overhaul near the former Isle Casino in Pompano Beach.

The popular driving range and entertainment company has locations across the country, offering a casual, interactive experience for people of all skill levels. The three-story Pompano Beach location will feature hitting bays, a restaurant, bar and entertainment and event space at the 64,000-square-foot venue, according to city documents.

In addition to the Topgolf, the 222-acre site south of Atlantic Boulevard and west of Interstate 95 also will include a new 55,000-square-foot Publix and more than 154,000 square feet of retail space.

At Topgolf, customers can hit microchipped balls inside the three-story venue and a video tracking system tells them when they’ve scored and the distance of their shots.

The site will be built on a vacant lot by the former Isle Casino, which was recently renamed Harrah’s Pompano Beach.

Topgolf, a Dallas-based company that opened in 2000, has more than 70 locations across the country, including two South Florida venues in Miami Gardens and Doral.

The company is talking to the city’s officials for permits, and there’s no estimate yet for an opening, Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin said. “Topgolf, a nationwide brand, has decided to open in Pompano Beach as their flagship for Broward County. They are planting the flag in Broward County,” Hardin said.

Hardin considers it a significant step forward. “It’s a well-recognized brand, and to locate here in Pompano Beach validates what we have been working for, for years: to position the city to be the top destination in Broward County.”

Attempts by the South Florida Sun Sentinel to reach a Topgolf representative were unsuccessful.

West Palm Beach features a similar, but different driving and entertainment venue with Drive Shack.

In Delray Beach, PopStroke is finalizing plans to open a three-acre mini-golf course designed by Tiger Woods.

PopStroke, which operates three other courses in Florida, will be located at 1314 N. Federal Highway, just over a mile north of Atlantic Avenue.

The development, which is set to open in 2023, will feature two, 18-hole putting courses designed by Woods. It also will offer a 4,600-square-foot restaurant and an outdoor play area with table tennis, foosball, cornhole and climbing structures for kids.

The revamped Harrah’s Pompano Beach also will feature a 15,000-square-foot casino expansion, a 580,000-square-foot, four-level parking garage connected to the casino that will add more than 1,500 parking spaces and a gaming terrace that will add 12,500 square feet of outdoor gaming.
