The letter g. Squirrels eating things they usually wouldn't. Pictures of animals without necks. The law of subreddits states that if something exists, a community can and will eventually form around it on Reddit. I've outlined below just a few of the strangest subreddits I was able to find, and I think each of them proves this law in its own way.

We've written Reddit ebook for beginners, outlined subreddits for showing off your creativity and told you ways to find obscure subreddits. We've even pointed out interesting subreddits we've found by clicking "Random", because we're dedicated to informing you - our reader. But we've never quite shown you just how singularly focused on a single thing a particular subreddit can be. Turns out the answer is "extremely".

Got some time to kill? No? Too bad! The article you're about to read – and face it, you will read it – won't make you more productive. At all.

Animals Without Necks

If you love animals, but hate their stupid necks, don't miss this subreddit. It's the premier online destination for all neckless animal enthusiasts – a category that includes the nearly 15,000 subscribers and you (whether you realize it or not).

hilarious subreddits

This subreddit is also noteworthy for having perhaps the best post title rule ever - "please keep vowels out of post titles, as vowels are the necks of words."

Hard to argue with that.

BirdsWithArms

It's really as simple as the title suggests - pictures of birds, but with arms. Like this:

funny subreddits

It's a seemingly simple concept that 44,000 individuals have decided to subscribe to. If you don't like the concept, however, simply head over to r/BirdsWithoutArms.

WhereDidTheSodaGo?

It all started with a simple GIF of a woman being admonished for pouring soda, and then it grew into a subreddit of its own. Today it's a constantly updating collection out-of-context gifs from TV commercials. You'll laugh. You'll wonder what the advertisers were thinking. Then you'll laugh some more.

When you realize this subreddit serves over 130,000 subscribers, though, you'll wonder why you didn't find it sooner. I know I do.

ggggg

If you're a big fan of the letter G – and I mean a really big fan – you should join the over 9,000 members of this subreddit. It's made up entirely of pictures of the letter g – and the comments consist only of that letter (occasionally with punctuation). It feels alien, confusing and familiar, all at once.

funny subreddits

Ggggg ggg gggggg. Gggg.

TreesSuckingAtThings

Stupid trees: they can't seem to do anything right. At least that's what the evidence viewed by the 11,000 residents of this subreddit discover time and time again. For example: trees suck at borrowing things.

funny subreddits

Is it simply a single joke? Yes. Is it childish? Probably. But face it: you love that this exists.

Squirrels Eating Unconventional Things (SEUT)

It's a simple concept, really: fluffy tailed rodents eating things they normally wouldn't. And judging by the ever-refreshing collection of photos offered, it's a consistently adorable thing that happens with some frequency around the planet.

hilarious subreddits

It's a relatively small community – just about 200 people – and updates are scarce, but it's worth checking out for initial cuteness alone. I sent this to my wife, Kathy, and her productivity halted immediately – so you know it's got to be good.

Mildly Interesting

Craig pointed it out before, but I have to say: I think this is my favorite subreddit in this entire list. People post things that are kind of interesting, but not interesting enough to actually post anywhere else on Reddit.

None of it will blow your mind, but most of it will make you mutter "huh" to yourself before you get back to whatever it was you were doing. If you subscribe to only one thing from this list I think it should be this one.

Sure, with over 200,000 subscribers it's not exactly obscure, but it's far from the sort of thing people think about when they think of Reddit.

Conclusion

Want more weirdness? Check out ToastersGoneWild and AvocadosGoneWild, two parodies of a particularly popular pornographic subreddit you may know of.

Or check out the weird subreddits subreddit to constantly find new weirdness. Warning: some of the subreddits they point to are extremely unsafe for work, to say the least. Don't visit those ones, and don't blame me if you do.

Can you recommend any subreddits weird than these? I'd like to know about them, so leave me a note in the comments below. Looking forward to it, but please, no NSFW ones.

Confused about what Reddit is? I'm amazed you read this article to the end, but whatever - check out our free Reddit manual. Oh, and remember, before posting anything in any of these subreddits, be sure to read the rules for that subreddits and the unwritten rules for posting on Reddit. Don't be the kind of commentor that drives people nuts.
